The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Section of the Mount Pleasant Police Department consists of officers who are specially trained to perform high-risk operations. SWAT’s primary function is addressing special threat situations including serving high-risk search and arrest warrants, barricaded suspects, hostage rescue, and engaging heavily-armed criminals.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department’s Special Weapons And Tactics Team provides a ready response to situations that are beyond the capabilities of normally equipped and trained Department personnel. Since its inception, MPPD SWAT Team members have affected the safe rescue of many individuals and arrested scores of violent suspects.
The need for SWAT expertise and assistance with warrant service is dependent upon: unusual circumstances beyond the capabilities of normal warrant service; heavily fortified location; weapons are present and have been used in the past; gang members are known to be present; use of diversionary tactics is anticipated; and, door and window pulls are needed to affect an arrest.
SWAT team members go through extensive training to effectively perfume their duties with the primary goal of taking someone into custody without bringing harm to them.
PD INTRODUCES MAXX - Safety Rescue Vehicle The primary mission of the Mount Pleasant Police MAXX vehicle is for it to be utilized to resolve life threatening critical incidents, while striving to maximize safety to both officers and civilians. It has been established that properly trained and equipped SWAT teams can reduce the risk of death and injury to civilians and officers by utilizing protective equipment during critical incidents.
The goal of the Mount Pleasant Police SWAT team is save lives. Maxx is designed to provide cover to protect officers when approaching a critical scene and to give police medical personnel cover when extracting injured victims.
